Emphasis- Elements in a piece are given dominance or attention The ring in the photo is shiny and smooth while the fruit has a rough texture, these two things contrast causing emphasis.
Horizontal Lines- Lines that run east and west (create calmness and tranquility).
Pattern- The repeated consistency of an element in a work. All of the bottles in this photo have the same shape and color and are in the same lines, thus creating pattern
Birds eye view- drastic view from above looking down. In this shot a man is being looked down upon from a birds eye view because the camera is almost directly above him at a drastic angle.
Vertical lines- Lines that run north and south ( creates grandness and spirituality). When look at this photo you feel relaxed or free, the trees tall and straight lines are vertical, and the women is also following the vertical line shapes of the trees.
Texture- Appearance and feel of a surface. When looking at this cactus plant you get a shiver on your back and can practically feel the prickly texture without even touching it.
Symmetrical Balance or Formal Balance- One side mirrors or shadows the other side. This cat is a great example of symmetrical blanche, everything that is on one side of the photo is on the other side just the same way, everything about the cat is the same when split down the center and this causes formal balance.
Unity- All elements in a work of art work together for a balanced, harmonious, complete whole. Within this photo are many things with just small differences maybe size or color but all have a similar structure to tie them together, in this picture many hands are present with a word on them and this is unity.
Rule of Thirds- Rule of thumb where the image is divided into 9 equal parts; compitsitional elements should be along these lines In my picture the flower is placed on a point of emphasis and the board are split into equal thirds, top, middle and bottom.
Diagonal Lines- Lines that run slanted and give moment to the composition.
Variety- A difference in elements and principals of design that give interest to a composition. in my picture there are many different sizes, colors and textures of starfish and this is variety.
Simplicity- Singling out items from their surrounding. the boy in this picture is singled out from the water by the color, there are only two colors in this picture and they contrast so the shape of the boy is singled out.
Asymmetrical Lines- Different objects that balance each other out on a page. If you were to split this picture in half the sides would not so how symmetry.
Movement/ rhythm- shows action and path of viewers eyes throughout the artwork. The model in this picture shows movement by changing the regular photograph with a movement.
Leading Lines- Lead your eyes in or out of the image. In this imagine the semi curved lines lead your eyes into the center area where the lines all straighten out.
Proportion/ Scale- The relative size of one object to another object. The tire size is shown by the man( a relative object) standing beside him.
Horizon Line- This is used to emphasize the sky or ground based on placement of the horizon line. The boat and water are placed on the horizon line about two thirds down the page.
Framing- directing viewers attention on what is important, using objects and elements existing in the scene. In this picture the two rocks are used to to direct you to the surfer.
Worms eye view- View from below looking up. In the picture we are simply looking up upon the building from a drastic view.
Curved Lines- Lines that devaite from the straightness in a smooth, continuous fashion(calming). THe chains create a calming feeling.
